Description:

Badge Checkers are responsible for ensuring that only those who have badges get into controlled convention space and redirecting those who do not have a badge to registration. Examples of such spaces might be panel rooms, Dealer's Den, Main Theatre/Main events, Secondary Theatre, or Fursuit Lounge. General Volunteer/Gofer

Job Name: General Volunteer/Gofer

Department: Operations

Time Required: 2-4 hour shifts, volunteer may work longer. Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun, Morning, afternoon and evening hours available.

Physical Requirement: Moderate - Must be able to walk, walk quickly/jog if sent on an errand. Some jobs may be less or more physical than others.

Description:

General Volunteers help fill the gaps when there is a need. They may be tasked to any department or lead who needs some extra help, from moving chairs, to helping attendees, locating someone, counting panel attendance, to managing lines or assisting wherever necessary. This is a good job if you are not sure where you fit, but are up for anything. You can volunteer at con as well, simply report to the Ops room! Line Wrangler

Description:

You assist by helping keep people in order and in line for various areas when they are required. This includes making sure that people aren't blocking hallways, important doors, or making sure they are getting lined up for the right area! You help by marshaling attendees where they need to be so the lines can proceed efficiently. You may be assisting for registration, Dealers opening, major events, or popular panels. Rangers

Job Name: Rangers

Department: Operations

Time Required: Typically 4-6 hour shifts, volunteers may be asked to work longer. Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun, Morning, afternoon and evening hours available. Shorter shifts may be available.

Physical Requirement:  Moderate to high - Must be able to physically move quickly, be able to be on your feet for long periods of time, extensive walking is required. Some physical lifting or other physical demands.

Reports to: Ranger Lead

Experience required: Must attend Ranger training sessions, Security or similar experience is an asset. First Aid is an asset. Rangers need to be level headed and be able to keep calm in stressful situations. Conflict De-escalation skills, diplomacy, ability to maintain confidentiality, and patience is required. Strong English skills and good communication skills are required. Radio Operation required.

Rangers are Vancoufur's attendee relations and troubleshooting team that keeps eyes and ears on the convention for problems and emergencies. Operations Room

Time Required: Typically 4-6 hour shifts, volunteers may be asked to work longer. Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun, Morning, afternoon and evening hours available. Shorter shifts may be available.

Physical Requirement: Low - Sitting

Reports to: Ranger Lead

Experience required: Must be able to multitask, be personable and speak/read/write English fluently. You should have good time management, organizational, and communication skills. Being able to solve problems creatively under pressure is an asset. Must be computer literate. First Aid or medical skills an asset. Maybe cross trained with Rangers.

Description:

The Operations Room is the heart of the convention, it is the communications center that keeps everything running smoothly and on time. Ops room volunteers have a great deal of trust and confidentiality entrusted to them, so they must be very responsible. They are stationed in the Ops room for their shift, where they will enter data into the computer, communicate with leads, assist the volunteer team, make sure programming has what it needs when it needs, that badge checkers, line wranglers, and general volunteers are dispatched as needed, as well as communicating via radio with the Ranger Lead, and Con Executives/Chairs. Staff Room Assistant

Job Name: Staff Room Assistant

Logistics - *** Counts as 1.5 hours for every hour worked ***

Job Name: Logistics Hand - Load in/Load out

Department: Operations

When: At- Con Job

Time Required: Varies, however is only Wed/Thurs, or Sunday evening

Physical Requirement: High - Must be able to lift/carry at least 40lbs loads to and from a truck to a loading space. Assistance with heavier loads may be required.

Reports to: Logistics Lead

Experience required: None. Being Physically capable is required, also being able to Drive a truck or Uhaul very desirable though not required. Truck owners are particularly welcome.

Description:

Logistics Hands assist in getting the equipment for the convention from wherever it is, to the hotel, and from the hotel back to wherever it goes afterward. Typically this includes audio/video equipment, theming decor, convention's IT equipment and various supplies from our storage locker and any additional materials required. Logistics hands will work with Logistic lead to coordinate pickup (if they can drive) or when to meet drivers to assist with loading or unloading the truck, either at the locker or at the hotel. Note that all work for Logistics occurs BEFORE and AFTER the con, and also counts for 1.5 hours for every 1 hour worked, so you can accumulate your hours quicker for rewards without conflicting with your convention schedule.  For more information on this position, email This email address is being protected from spambots.
