Each year Vancoufur raises money for a local charity, usually animal themed for reasons that should be obvious.
In 2019, Vancoufur is raising money for SAINTS (Senior Animals In Need Today). SAINTS was started in December 2004 after volunteers at other animal shelters saw many senior animals spending their last days in a shelter or pound. They are an end-of-life sanctuary for senior and special needs animals that have nowhere else to go.
The money raised by Vancoufur will go towards helping maintain a shelter for the animals, food and veterinary costs, and so on.
Our main fundraising event at the convention is our yearly charity auction. Donated items - which have previously included artwork, fursuit parts, statues, commission slots, plushies and even polystyrene rocks draped with our shirtless convention chairman - are sold to the highest bidder with monies raised going directly to the charity. We are also looking into other potential fundraising events, and direct donation boxes will be available at events around the convention.
Our Visit to SAINTS
On a rather wet day earlier this year, Vancoufur took a trip up to SAINTS to see their animal refuge and the work that they do. We were all impressed by their dedication and the care they show for the animals they rescue. If you'd like to see what your money is going toward this year, check out the photos from our visit!
